My perception of social media is that it's a great tool to know what is going on in the world as well as in different careers and business, also great tool for people that are running business them self's to promote and gain customers though word of month which would come though social media. I personal do not think it is a fad i think it is the biggest thing now a days for everyone, not just the younger generation but the older as well. You my think older people? yeah but what i am meaning when i say this is facebook and grandma and grandpa live far away and want to see pictures of their grand kids all that has to be done is post on social media sites. I believe that social media will always be use and never die because of what it has turned into as well as free promotion for company's that are corporately owned as well as privately owned.

I agree that social media will be used but although some effects are good others have major drawback. While it aides businesses it can hurt the common consumer who sits at there computer instead of actually engaging socially with others. Businesses benefit but do we really need a new form of advertising?
ReplyDeleteI agree with mark aswell. When businesses use online shopping to promote their business they are not getting to face to face selling some consumers want and need. Aswell as would this not show a decline is customer services? Imagine how long it would take for someone to get customer assistance if they are having issues buying items over the online web.
ReplyDeleteBusinesses advertise online as a way to reach out to a different market of consumer. Typically it's a younger generation or people who just don't have time to go into a store (work, lazy, etc). A lot of consumers now shy away from the face-to-face salesman as they usually are pushy, annoying, etc because they want to make commission. I understand not all stores are under commission but many are now. Personally I would rather shop online because it's faster, easier, and usually cheaper then going to a store.
ReplyDeleteBesides that I would agree with Tyler that it is a great to for knowledge, but there are many other great things it may be used for. Expressing opinions, buying or selling different products, etc. The list goes on and on.
I completely agree with your points, but what about "grandma and grandpa" who do not know how to use a computer or what the internet is, how would you reach out to that type of audience to gain an interest in wanting to learn about social media and the new technology?
